Overbuild: Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now

Overbuild is an essay about Nicolas Roeg's 1973 film Don't Look Now, published in The Carbon Arc, edited by Richard Skinner. I examine the film's infamous first scene, focussing on three odd objects, a print, a prop book, a projection screen, to ask: ‘Are you prepared to reinvent your death?’

The Carbon Arc is the second in a series of essay collections on the world of Cinema, its films, actors and directors, by a spectacular array of reviewers, film critics, essayists, interdisciplinary writers, novelists & academics.

Featuring the work of Marina Benjamin, Jonathan Coe, Jude Cook, Rob Doyle, Wendy Erskine, Gareth Evans, Maria Fusco, David Gaffney, Karen Krizanovich, Sam Mills, Nicholas Royle, David Savill, Richard Skinner, Christiana Spens, Christina Tudor-Sideri and Anne Worthington.

The essay is partof my ongoing sequence of works about Canadian actor Donald Sutherland. You can see other works in this sequence here, here, here, here, here and in my book Give Up Art.
